Cowes Week Clash
This painting represents the drama of the moment - a moment of danger with the two boats racing, seemingly about to collide in mid-Solent. There's a truly combative, crossed-swords (crossed-sails) look to it; no quarter given.
From a painting point of view, Martin particularly liked the pale, grey blues and whites, punctuated, in a contrasting sort of way, by dabs of colour on the yachtsmen's kit, and the dark colour of the cockpits.
Martin says: "It had to be painted!"
