Sarah Kearney

Living and working on the Isle of Wight, Sarah is a Respiratory Specialist Nurse, craft enthusiast and glass artist. Her love of glass fusing developed several years ago after attending a weekend workshop and she now uses her spare time as a way to unwind after a hectic working week, creating in her home workshop.

Mostly self-taught, learning through experimentation and trial and error, her projects have grown in size and complexity, incorporating fusing, slumping and working with a combination of sheet glass, crushed glass and glass powders to create textured evocative pieces.

Sarah likes to fuse at lower temperatures to retain the texture of the glass which adds extra depth and dimension. Natural elements such as copper and silver foil and hints of dichroic glass also feature in her work.

Living on the Island, the landscape is often her inspiration, using the vibrancy, colour and textures of the natural world.

Because each piece is handmade and shaped by the heat of the kiln in a way that she can never fully control, every piece is genuinely unique and individual.
