Roy Roberts

Roy Roberts graduated from Southampton Art College with an NDD in fine art then formed an advertising business in the early '70's after a five year period as a professional musician recording with Tony Hatch at PYE records..... sharing the stage with The Who, Rod Stewart, the early Fleetwood Mac, Eric Clapton, Ronnie Wood and more.

During his Advertising career, Roy also specialised as a yacht photographer, photographing over 150 Superyachts around the world for over 30 years with work published in most of the world's yachting titles, newspapers, magazines and even 'Hello!' magazine!, all good training for the 'eye'.

Roy started painting again more recently, inspired by artists such as Edward Seago, Sorolla, the 'Spanish master of light', and the many impressionists. At Art College Roy favoured working with pastels, charcoal and pen. Starting again firstly with acrylics, Roy settled on oils as his chosen medium.

Living by the water and owning a boat in the Solent area for decades and having a particular affinity with the Isle of Wight going back to childhood holidays at Bembridge, it is not surprising that the images he enjoys painting feature the marine environments around the Solent area.
