Fiona Moatt lives on the Isle of Wight, and the island is a major inspiration in her work, the light, sea and surrounding beaches offer a wealth of creative richness.
Fiona specialises in painted collage, where hand made papers are painted with acrylic and then torn and applied to produce layered textural images. This pre-painted technique allows her to experiment freely. Fiona also enjoys working with strong contrasting colour, as well as more subtle changes, blending the papers to produce a melting rippling effect.
Despite the unrestricted method of painting the final composition is often highly ordered and symmetrical, carefully balanced with a rhythmic pattern of layers and colour, designed to evoke a sense of calm.
