Frank Jacobs grew up in the Isle of Wight where, at an early age, he developed a love of the sea. After twenty years as a pilot in the RAF he became a teacher.
Although he had always been interested in art he did not begin to paint seriously until the late 1970's. He is largely self-taught and admits to having been heavily influenced by certain contemporary watercolourists, notably John Blockley, Rowland Hilder and the late Edward Wesson.
He works in either pure watercolour or in ink and wash, often using a matchstick as a pen. He prefers to work on location, his favourite subjects being coastlines and estuaries. His output is small but his work appears in a number of galleries in Southern England and has been exported to Australia, New Zealand and the United States.
