Ian was born and lives in Australia. His childhood years were spent on the shore of Hervey Bay where his love of the sea and ships began. He was actively painting at the age of 8 using watercolours and began painting in oils from 11. Ian joined the navy at 15 and served for 12 years continually painting the ships and scenes he observed. On leaving the navy he became a full time artist, cruising the east coast of Australia in his yacht and eventually making a home in Sydney. Ian has won many awards with his paintings including one at the highly acclaimed Mystic Museum in the USA. His work is represented at Govenment House, Sydney Stock Exchange, Qantas and in many commercial and private collections.
